The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jayden Higgins fell into slot 89. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Gadsden II reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kenneth Grant in slot 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Tate Ratledge in the 58th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Jayden Higgins in Round 3, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Phillips at No. 127 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Hunter Wohler at pick 243, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
