The tape said wait; the Texans did not. Le'Veon Moss went at the Round 5 slot, a good 36 picks before the board was ready.
The Hall pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
CJ Allen in slot 38 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christen Miller at pick 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in No. 69, with Jake Slaughter worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Nicholas Singleton in the 106th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Dametrious Crownover at the 141st pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Le'Veon Moss in pick 167 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Ar'maj Reed-Adams at par in pick No. 169, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, TJ Hall in slot 243, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
