Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent the 58th overall pick on Keylan Rutledge, a name most had 56 spots down the list.
The Muhammad steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Caleb Lomu at pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Keylan Rutledge at slot 58, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 127th pick, where De'Zhaun Stribling graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Malik Muhammad was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 33, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jakobe Thomas in pick No. 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Kaleb Proctor in No. 139 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
