The one they had to fix is still broken. The Texans left wide receiver untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Fuller to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will need Miller to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get an anchor for the defensive front, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Jake Slaughter in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Blake Miller higher than the 69th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Mike Washington Jr. at No. 111 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Beau Stephens at par in pick No. 155, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kaleb Elarms-Orr a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Andre Fuller at slot 243 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
