The Texans' one glaring miss is wide receiver, a need they left exactly as they found it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will need Gulbin to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel Pregnon at Round 2, Pick 6 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Christen Miller at the 59th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jonah Coleman in No. 69. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Emmett Johnson at slot 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
J.C. Davis at the 141st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Matt Gulbin in pick 167; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Jack Kelly in pick No. 243; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
