The rest of the league had time to spare on Kaytron Allen; the Texans did not wait, grabbing him 38 spots ahead at No. 108.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Hunter steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Hit on Kenyon Sadiq and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter.
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Olaivavega Ioane come to them and pounced at pick 34. The roster fit checks out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lee Hunter at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Jake Slaughter, who had no business lasting to slot 69. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dametrious Crownover. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kaytron Allen at slot 108 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Chris McClellan at pick 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Demond Claiborne in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Xavier Nwankpa was the payoff at No. 243. It adds depth where they could use a little.
