Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Sam Hecht, the No. 92 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 4 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Reaching for McGowan left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Peter Woods higher than Round 2, Pick 6, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caleb Banks in the 59th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Jadarian Price was the payoff at the 69th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sam Hecht in slot 111 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in pick 141: Oscar Delp for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Dametrious Crownover in No. 145, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Seth McGowan at pick No. 169 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Rivers at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams slid further than he should have, and pick 186 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Taylen Green at Round 6, Pick 29 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zavion Thomas at the 243rd pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
