Houston Texans

The Texans robbed the room for Lew. Final grade: B.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Texans came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lew. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The cost of the Washington Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In the 29th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Gennings Dunker · OT · rank 49
They went early on Gennings Dunker in slot 41, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Mike Washington Jr. · RB · rank 75
They paid a round early for Mike Washington Jr. in No. 59, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 48
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at pick No. 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Connor Lew · C · rank 82
You do not let an offensive lineman like Connor Lew reach Round 4, Pick 6 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 132
Oscar Delp in the 141st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Eric Rivers · WR · rank 169
Eric Rivers at Round 5, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Keagen Trost · OT · rank 182
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keagen Trost. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.8 · Pick 189 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 184
DJ Campbell in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Isaiah Nwokobia · S · rank 233
A tidy bit of business in slot 243, where Isaiah Nwokobia graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
