This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Connor Lew, the No. 82 name on the board, stolen at Round 4, Pick 6. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They will need McGowan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; CJ Allen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Lee Hunter in No. 59. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Eli Stowers higher than the 69th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
They let Christen Miller come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Connor Lew at pick No. 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in the 141st overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McGowan in pick 167, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Thaddeus Dixon at slot 243 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
