When a board-topper like Keionte Scott slides to pick 108, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot.
Lee Hunter at the 57th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in No. 69: Jake Slaughter for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Kaytron Allen at pick 106, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keionte Scott in Round 4, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kaleb Proctor at the 141st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Kage Casey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Douglas in No. 169. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Zavion Thomas, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 27. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
