The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 5 slot on Le'Veon Moss a full 41 spots early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Landing Lew that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a red-zone target to build around, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Caleb Banks in slot 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Mike Washington Jr. in the 69th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Connor Lew in pick 106 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
J.C. Davis at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Le'Veon Moss well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Thaddeus Dixon at No. 243 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
