You could see the war room lean forward. Keionte Scott at Round 5, Pick 1 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Every board in the league had Gumbs Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.28
· Pick 28
· Kayden McDonald
· DT
· rank 18
In No. 28 they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.29
· Pick 29
· Caleb Lomu
· OT
· rank 28
They took Caleb Lomu at par in Round 1, Pick 29, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R2.19
· Pick 51
· Dillon Thieneman
· S
· rank 27
A safety of that caliber at the 51st pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.27
· Pick 59
· Mike Washington Jr.
· RB
· rank 72
A reach on Mike Washington Jr. in the 59th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5
· Pick 69
· Gennings Dunker
· OG
· rank 51
They robbed the room for Gennings Dunker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
R4.6
· Pick 106
· Zachariah Branch
· WR
· rank 65
Zachariah Branch in pick No. 106 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.22
· Pick 122
· Logan Jones
· C
· rank 97
Somehow Logan Jones was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.40
· Pick 140
· George Gumbs Jr.
· DE-EDGE
· rank 194
George Gumbs Jr. at slot 140 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.1
· Pick 141
· Keionte Scott
· CB
· rank 64
They barely believed it either: Keionte Scott still on the board at the 141st overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.27
· Pick 167
· DeMonte Capehart
· DT
· rank 138
DeMonte Capehart at No. 167 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.39
· Pick 179
· Albert Regis
· DL
· rank 172
Nothing to complain about; Albert Regis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.27
· Pick 243
· Ephesians Prysock
· CB
· rank 192
The board fumbled Ephesians Prysock all the way to pick 243, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
