Houston Texans

Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Golday: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Golday had no business being available in slot 109, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Kelly has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 17
In the 29th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 47
Max Iheanachor at pick No. 38 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Gennings Dunker · OG · rank 52
They did well to land Gennings Dunker in slot 59, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 42
Taking Caleb Banks in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 58
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 5, where Jake Slaughter graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 113
Nicholas Singleton at pick 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 96
They let Bryce Lance come to them and pounced at the 108th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 64
A edge rusher of that caliber at No. 109 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Darrell Jackson Jr. · DT · rank 106
A tidy little value on Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 111th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 145
They took Dametrious Crownover at par in No. 141, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Malik Benson · WR · rank 146
Malik Benson at pick No. 167 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 265
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Kelly. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
