Whoever sat across the table from the Texans should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.28
· Pick 28
· Kayden McDonald
· DT
· rank 18
In No. 28 they get a load in the middle, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.31
· Pick 31
· Olaivavega Ioane
· OG
· rank 19
A quiet steal in the 31st pick: Olaivavega Ioane for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.8
· Pick 40
· Max Iheanachor
· OT
· rank 47
They paid sticker price for Max Iheanachor in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.27
· Pick 59
· Caleb Banks
· DL
· rank 42
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Caleb Banks at the 59th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5
· Pick 69
· Mike Washington Jr.
· RB
· rank 72
By-the-book stuff, Mike Washington Jr. at Round 3, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.7
· Pick 107
· Logan Jones
· C
· rank 97
Logan Jones at pick No. 107 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
R4.9
· Pick 109
· De'Zhaun Stribling
· WR
· rank 99
Nice patience on De'Zhaun Stribling, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 9. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.1
· Pick 141
· Eli Raridon
· TE
· rank 137
Eli Raridon at No. 141 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.27
· Pick 167
· Rayshaun Benny
· DL
· rank 158
The board had Rayshaun Benny higher than slot 167, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.25
· Pick 206
· Ephesians Prysock
· CB
· rank 192
Ephesians Prysock is a better player than the 206th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.31
· Pick 212
· Taylen Green
· QB
· rank 191
Circle this one: Taylen Green at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.27
· Pick 243
· TJ Hall
· CB
· rank 231
A slide stopped in the 243rd overall pick, with TJ Hall worth more than the price. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
