Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Anthony Hill Jr., the No. 38 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 59.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in the 38th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Caleb Banks at No. 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Hill Jr. at slot 59 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nicholas Singleton in the 106th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
J.C. Davis at pick No. 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Rivers at pick 167, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Bryce Foster at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
