The Texans put a flag in the ground for Kaytron Allen, 36 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Landing Hunter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a mismatch in the passing game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In slot 29 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that.
Emmanuel Pregnon in the 38th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jake Slaughter at the 59th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Lee Hunter at No. 69 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaytron Allen in pick No. 111, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 1 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Kage Casey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Zavion Thomas here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
