The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for McKade Mettauer, 35 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Walker pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A slide stopped in the 56th overall pick, with Devontez Walker worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Gabriel Murphy at Round 3, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They talked themselves into Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 124, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Ethan Driskell enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 174. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Sam Hartman in pick 212, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on McKade Mettauer at slot 245, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
