You can hear the double-takes from here. The Giants took Taulia Tagovailoa at the 82nd overall pick, roughly 162 spots before his name belonged.
The Still steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 82, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Malik Washington in the 108th overall pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 18 with a little surplus value in Max Melton. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Cedric Gray, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached into another round for Frank Gore Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ethan Driskell in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Josh Proctor in No. 185; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tarheeb Still at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trey Taylor at slot 231 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
