The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, taking him 40 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Tetairoa McMillan in pick 11; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick No. 38, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Deone Walker in the 43rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Isaiah Bond, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Savion Williams at Round 3, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bhayshul Tuten this early at No. 113. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jackson Hawes at Round 6, Pick 37 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
