The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson. With tight end, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Reaching for Moore left real value on the table behind him. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter.
In the 19th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, edge rusher and other spots to take CJ Allen, a linebacker that was not the priority.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing D'Angelo Ponds in slot 57. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Louis Moore in the 147th pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Cyrus Allen in pick No. 187 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Domani Jackson at the 196th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeremiah Wright at Round 6, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Noah Whittington in No. 223, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Nwokobia slid further than he should have, and slot 235 is lovely value for the safety. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
