Start where it matters. The Vikings took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
McCormick falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Carson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 31 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A want over a need in slot 107: Caelen Carson adds a cornerback while tight end and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Dylan Laube in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justin Eboigbe in the 166th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Luke McCaffrey was the payoff at pick 176. The roster fit checks out.
Mason McCormick in pick No. 188 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Owens at slot 230, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Garret Greenfield all the way to the 248th pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
