The war room fell hard for Keilan Robinson, and it showed at the 251st overall pick: 132 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The Oladapo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
If Kamari Lassiter and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 41st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonathon Brooks in No. 58. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in slot 88. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Brandon Dorlus, who had no business lasting to the 91st overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
DJ James in pick No. 127 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Kitan Oladapo all the way to the 204th pick, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Taking Jaylan Ford in slot 216 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 243 with a little surplus value in Brevyn Spann-Ford. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Keilan Robinson in the Round 7 slot, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
