The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Michael Barrett slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the McCaffrey reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The Chiefs clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 81 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They jumped the gun on Ben Sinnott, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 151 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 158 with a little surplus value in Cody Schrader. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in the 215th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Frank Gore Jr. was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 18. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Michael Barrett at the 249th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
