The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Donovan Edwards, 40 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
If Donovan Edwards and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Donovan Edwards, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at the 117th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They liked Andrew Mukuba enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 126. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Jaishawn Barham in Round 5, Pick 30, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Jo'Quavious Marks in No. 178 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Sage Ryan at the 213th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Korey Foreman in No. 222 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
