There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Texans never got to the one that mattered most. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Sanders value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick No. 24, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Jonathon Brooks at the 53rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brenden Rice in slot 95 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Jackson a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Ricky Pearsall went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Sanders at the 158th pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern slipping to pick 240 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kaimon Rucker at No. 242 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
