Call it larceny. Trey Benson sat on the board until Round 3, Pick 30, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Bethune to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Amarius Mims at Round 1, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 56, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones at the 124th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Coleman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Gabe Hall at the 212th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Tatum Bethune enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 245. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
