Thirty-one other rooms let Kaleb Johnson slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at pick No. 149. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Tate Ratledge slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kenneth Grant in the 75th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaleb Johnson in pick 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Danny Stutsman in Round 5, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A running back of that caliber at slot 170 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach No. 171 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Parker Brailsford at the 186th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 209 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
