There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Sam Hartman, 125 picks ahead of schedule.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They have staked the next five years on J.J. McCarthy, which is the only story that really matters here.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
On value alone, Coleman makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
