Best value of the weekend goes to the Chiefs for Wheatley: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Zakee Wheatley got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the 109th overall pick.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and running back went begging. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
In the Round 1 slot they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Zion Young · DE-EDGE · rank 43
Zion Young in the 40th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 74
A straight-up fair deal on Jacob Rodriguez at pick 74, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 81
They read the board right and Daylen Everette was the payoff at No. 92. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 85
Taking Zakee Wheatley in pick No. 109 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 102
A surprising call. With quarterback and running back still to address, they spent the 112th overall pick on Tacario Davis, a cornerback they were not short of.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · Skyler Gill-Howard · DT · rank 145
Skyler Gill-Howard at slot 148 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 167
By-the-book stuff, Aamil Wagner at pick No. 169 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 171
Marlin Klein in the 176th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 186
The board had cheaper options than Eric McAlister at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · Raylen Wilson · LB · rank 218
They liked Raylen Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 210th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
