The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Rome Odunze, the No. 9 name on the board, in the 32nd overall pick.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They are betting Lovett proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Taking Rome Odunze in pick 32 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 32. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 95 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Sataoa Laumea here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ainias Smith in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Fabien Lovett at No. 173 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
