There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chiefs took Trajan Jeffcoat a full 56 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Ladd McConkey at the 32nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 64 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Christian Jones in No. 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the 159th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Cody Schrader at par in Round 5, Pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Trajan Jeffcoat at Round 7, Pick 32, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
