The Chiefs did not so much draft Miles Kitselman as overpay for him, 24 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 29th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 40 with a little surplus value in Brandon Cisse. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Domonique Orange at Round 3, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Genesis Smith at par in the 109th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kaytron Allen at slot 148 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Travis Burke in No. 169 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ephesians Prysock at the 176th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Miles Kitselman at pick No. 210 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
