The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chiefs reached some 66 spots for Curtis Jacobs, and value like that does not grow back. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
That Cowing pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Devontez Walker at the 64th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khyree Jackson in slot 95 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Curtis Jacobs at No. 132, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Tanner McLachlan in the 159th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jacob Cowing at pick 173 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 39 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
