The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Peter Woods, the No. 30 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Prysock left real value on the table behind him.
A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a bell-cow for the offense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot.
Chris Johnson in pick No. 40 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Peter Woods in the 74th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Elijah Sarratt still on the board at Round 3, Pick 33. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Ted Hurst at the 121st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hezekiah Masses is a better player than slot 148 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They reached a country mile for Ephesians Prysock at pick 169, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Domani Jackson at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They let Jeff Caldwell come to them and pounced at the 210th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Robert Spears-Jennings in pick No. 237 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
