You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 64 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DeWayne Carter. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chau Smith-Wade at the 132nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the 159th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Cody Schrader at No. 173 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
