The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Keylan Rutledge, the No. 74 name on the board, in Round 4, Pick 12. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Dixon pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Carnell Tate higher than pick No. 26, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Jermod McCoy in slot 29, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Caleb Banks in the 40th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Chris Bell slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 17 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 92 on Keionte Scott with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Daylen Everette while clear needs at quarterback, running back and other spots sat open.
Taking Keylan Rutledge in the 112th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Eli Raridon is a better player than the 148th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in pick 162: Isaiah World for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the 169th pick, where Marlin Klein graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Bryce Boettcher still on the board at pick No. 210. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Thaddeus Dixon in slot 211, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They paid up for Kaden Wetjen at Round 7, Pick 10 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
