The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. Thaddeus Dixon went at slot 176, a good 44 picks before the board was ready. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Fields value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 40 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren still on the board at the 74th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Malachi Fields here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. A minor itch, scratched.
Ephesians Prysock at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thaddeus Dixon in No. 176, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They paid a round early for TJ Hall in the 210th pick, more than the board wanted. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Chase Roberts at the 211th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nick Barrett at pick 212 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Fa'alili Fa'amoe in slot 253, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
