The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. Thaddeus Dixon went at slot 176, a good 44 picks before the board was ready. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Fields value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In No. 9 they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Denzel Boston · WR · rank 30
In pick No. 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 40 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren still on the board at the 74th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 73
They robbed the room for Malachi Fields here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 176
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 190
Ephesians Prysock at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 220
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thaddeus Dixon in No. 176, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · TJ Hall · CB · rank 222
They paid a round early for TJ Hall in the 210th pick, more than the board wanted. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · Chase Roberts · WR · rank 213
Chase Roberts at the 211th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Nick Barrett · DL · rank 254
Nick Barrett at pick 212 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.37 · Pick 253 · Fa'alili Fa'amoe · OT · rank 246
They did well to land Fa'alili Fa'amoe in slot 253, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
