If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chiefs, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Getting Orange where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Davis pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, running back and other spots.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Wetjen left real value on the table behind him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a load in the middle at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Bell at No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 92 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Daylen Everette slipping to slot 96 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They did well to land Genesis Smith in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Tacario Davis while clear needs at quarterback, running back and other spots sat open.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Julian Neal adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback, running back and other spots untouched.
They let Eli Raridon come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Beau Stephens higher than the 169th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marlin Klein at Round 5, Pick 36 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Ephesians Prysock went about where he belonged in the 188th overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Kaden Wetjen in No. 210 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Carver Willis in pick No. 257; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
