You could see the war room lean forward. Ollie Gordon II at slot 219 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 1 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Tate Ratledge at pick 36 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Dylan Fairchild higher than the 67th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Harold Fannin Jr. was still sitting there in No. 79, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Tez Johnson was the payoff at the 103rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach Round 7, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Hunter Wohler in pick 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
