You build a draft on nights like this. Cooper Beebe had no business being available in slot 100, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.5
· Pick 5
· Brock Bowers
· TE
· rank 6
In No. 5 they get a red-zone target to build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Kool-Aid McKinstry
· CB
· rank 19
Nice patience on Kool-Aid McKinstry, who had no business lasting to the 36th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.5
· Pick 37
· Tyler Guyton
· OT
· rank 39
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at pick 37 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.8
· Pick 40
· Jackson Powers-Johnson
· C
· rank 51
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 40 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Kingsley Suamataia
· OT
· rank 53
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.5
· Pick 69
· Ja'Tavion Sanders
· TE
· rank 54
Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 69 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 78
Circle this one: Cooper Beebe at the 100th pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.2
· Pick 102
· Zak Zinter
· OG
· rank 95
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.5
· Pick 141
· Tommy Eichenberg
· LB
· rank 127
They read the board right and Tommy Eichenberg was the payoff at the 141st pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.6
· Pick 181
· Curtis Jacobs
· LB
· rank 179
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.3
· Pick 223
· Jaylen Harrell
· DE-EDGE
· rank 201
Jaylen Harrell in the 223rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
