Nobody had Trey Moore this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 114 spots to get him at the 148th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Judkins pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The Moore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and tight end still on the board.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.16
· Pick 16
· Jahdae Barron
· CB
· rank 14
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R2.30
· Pick 62
· Kurtis Rourke
· QB
· rank 138
They talked themselves into Kurtis Rourke at the 62nd pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.25
· Pick 89
· Donovan Jackson
· OT
· rank 88
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. The roster fit checks out.
R3.34
· Pick 98
· Luke Kandra
· OG
· rank 111
A reach on Luke Kandra in slot 98; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.35
· Pick 99
· Jake Majors
· C
· rank 95
Jake Majors in pick No. 99 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.13
· Pick 114
· Andrew Mukuba
· S
· rank 73
Andrew Mukuba in pick 114 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.21
· Pick 122
· JJ Pegues
· DT
· rank 181
This one needs a full-page explanation: JJ Pegues in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.31
· Pick 132
· Malachi Moore
· S
· rank 74
A surprising call. With wide receiver and tight end still to address, they spent pick 132 on Malachi Moore, a safety they were not short of.
R5.10
· Pick 148
· Trey Moore
· LB-EDGE
· rank 262
A big swing on Trey Moore at the 148th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.19
· Pick 157
· Quinshon Judkins
· RB
· rank 75
Quinshon Judkins in No. 157 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.27
· Pick 165
· Connor Colby
· OG
· rank 175
They jumped the gun on Connor Colby, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.30
· Pick 168
· Danny Stutsman
· LB
· rank 89
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to the 168th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
