You could see the war room lean forward. Ollie Gordon II at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The McLaughlin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Harold Perkins Jr. at No. 8 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Earnest Greene III in pick 40; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Shavon Revel Jr. in the 72nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 104 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Theo Wease Jr. at Round 5, Pick 8. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cashius Howell is a better player than the 168th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Seth McLaughlin in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
