The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Daequan Hardy, the No. 195 name on the board, sitting there at pick 233 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 56 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Blake Corum went about where he belonged in slot 87. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Luke McCaffrey in the 173rd overall pick, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Jaylan Ford still on the board at pick No. 216. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Daequan Hardy in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Nathan Thomas here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
