Start where it matters. The Vikings took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
McCaffrey falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get the arm they will build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Elijah Jones at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Javion Cohen in slot 157 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 31 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Myles Cole at the 177th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Matthew Jones at pick 230 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Rasheen Ali well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
