B

Minnesota Vikings

Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Vikings.

Future A+

The Vikings put a flag in the ground for Michael Pratt, 57 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
In pick 29 they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 102
Michael Pratt in No. 45 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 60
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It fills a real need, too.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 82
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Roman Wilson in the 92nd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 112
A clean, defensible pick in slot 116 with a little surplus value in Leonard Taylor III. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 154
Jaylen Wright at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 145
Good price on Javion Cohen in pick No. 148, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 146
Theo Johnson at No. 160 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 163
Fair-plus on Layden Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 167
Andru Phillips in slot 174 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 175
A reasonable price with a little left over, Curtis Jacobs in the 179th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 204
Taking Myles Jones in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Chad Lindberg · C · rank 251
Chad Lindberg in the 245th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
