The war room fell hard for Chad Lindberg, and it showed at slot 230: 21 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Adding Brett Rypien by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for T'Vondre Sweat. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Michael Pratt in pick 108, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cedric Johnson in the Round 5 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 166th pick with a little surplus value in Layden Robinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, De'Corian Clark a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steele Chambers at the 218th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They talked themselves into Chad Lindberg at Round 7, Pick 10, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
