There is reaching, and then there is DeMonte Capehart at the 230th overall pick. The Vikings jumped the board by 36 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Davis steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy at the 42nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Davis in pick 108 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kamal Hadden at No. 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Delmar Glaze at par in Round 5, Pick 30, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Barrett in the 179th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
DeMonte Capehart at pick 230 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
