You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Vikings did exactly that with Zion Logue in pick 230. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Mustapha pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 10. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for Javon Foster in No. 130, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malik Mustapha in pick No. 148 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at the 160th pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Layden Robinson at pick 166 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Javon Baker at par in No. 179, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Zion Logue in the 230th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
