You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Vikings did exactly that with Zion Logue in pick 203. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That Carson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Dallas Turner at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in the 42nd pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caelen Carson in pick No. 108 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on MarShawn Lloyd, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Javion Cohen at slot 148, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Hart at pick 160 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Theo Johnson in Round 5, Pick 30. It fills a real need, too.
Curtis Jacobs in slot 179 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach pick 230 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
