After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
McCarthy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Speights falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chop Robinson in No. 42 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Melton. A minor itch, scratched.
A straight-up fair deal on MarShawn Lloyd at slot 130, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in pick 148; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Jefferson at the 160th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Austin Booker at Round 5, Pick 30 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Wiley in pick No. 179 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Omar Speights in No. 230 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
